 | In the middle of a terrifying hurricane, the Broadbeck family faces an enemy even more horrifying than the storm raging outside. Three escaped convicts have taken Cassie Broadbeck (Melissa Gilbert—“HOLLYWOOD WIVES: THE NEW GENERATION,” “LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE”) and her two teenaged daughters hostage in their own home. One is just a small time crook, but another is a convicted rapist and the third, Simpson (Tom Cavanagh—“ED,” “BANG, BANG, YOU'RE DEAD”), their leader who is wielding the gun, is a cold-blooded murderer serving two life terms. Cassie is fairly certain that three more murders will be of little consequence to this hardened killer, so she must do whatever it takes to save her girls.
At one time, the Broadbecks seemed to lead an idyllic life, living happily together in their beautiful, old home on the river. However, the afternoon that their eldest daughter was struck by a passing car changed everything. Not only did Hallie have to slowly relearn everything she ever knew and live with a permanent scar down the side of her face, there was no one in the family who remained unscathed by this tragic accident. Cassie is consumed with Hallie’s recovery and is emotionally unavailable to anyone else. Their feisty, younger daughter, Nicole, feels abandoned by her mother and blames Cassie and Hallie, while Cassie’s husband Wayne (Brian Wimmer— "CHINA BEACH," "REESEVILLE") turns to another woman for consolation. Now, despite Wayne’s pleas to be forgiven, Cassie plans to take the girls and to leave New Orleans. She intends to return to Chicago to resume her career as a weather forecaster, but her packing is interrupted when the three convicts burst into their home.
The afternoon of the storm Wayne, who is the local fire marshal, is helping to oversee one of the convict work crews who are sandbagging the riverbanks in preparation for the hurricane. At the same time several convicts from another crew make their escape with the help of a crooked sheriff. Although, Simpson’s plan was originally to run solo, two other convicts, Tad and Juke, recognizing their chance to get away, decide to join him. Since he has broken his leg in the escape, Simpson grudgingly accepts their help. When the corrupt sheriff is delayed by the storm and fails to meet up with them, the three desperate convicts make their way to the nearest house…the Broadbeck’s home.
Despite their estrangement, Wayne, having heard about the escaped convicts, is worried about Cassie and the girls so he fights his way through the hurricane to check on them. On his journey there, Wayne encounters the corrupt sheriff who is on his way to aid the convicts. When Wayne realizes that the sheriff has Cassie’s address and is an accomplice to the criminals, a brutal struggle ensues, in which the sheriff is stabbed. However, Wayne is not so lucky when he reaches his final destination-- Simpson shoots him before he can rescue his family. Huddled together afraid and wounded, the Broadbecks find that they are truly a loving family again for the first time in months… yet this time spent together may prove to be their last unless they can find some way to overcome these desperate criminals. Simpson plans to take poor, innocent Hallie with him as a hostage, and Cassie and Wayne agree that they will never allow this atrocity to take place—even if it costs them their lives. | |
