 | Victims is a strong personal found footage material, which grants the spectator short insights into the life of the Austrians in a time that was stamped by a long continuous economic depression, the upswing and the invasion of the national-socialists under the leadership of Adolf Hitler and therefore in further consequence the start of the second world war. In this private filmed material you see for example in short sequenzes a cheering crowd welcoming the Nazis in Vienna, a wedding and children playing. After a short time an important fact pops into the mind while looking at this private material: Nearly all persons in this movie smile. They are proud to be a part of the Third Reich. The unique 16 mm black & white private movie from 1938 is scanned into the computer frame by frame to alienate the material and to establish a own visual language on one hand and not to harm this found footage material which survived not only the second world war but all in all 70 years on the other hand. In the end there are over 16.000 single frames - reanimated in a rate of 12 frames per second to give the spectator the feeling of watching an old movie - some of the sequences are looped which gives the film Victims a lenght of 23 minutes. The music is composed by Wolfgang Dorninger - a wellknown Austrian electronic musician (Wipeout,etc)- and the non-verbal singing of Didi Bruckmayr - also a wellknown Austrian musician (Wipeout, Fuckhead, etc) - gives the movie the final touch. Victims was fonded by Konstnärsnämden (SWE), Kultur Land Oberösterreich (A) and Linz Kultur (A) | |
