Two brothers, Christian (43) (Lars Eidinger) and Georg (45) (Bjarne Mädel), cross paths at their father’s funeral in the Black Forrest. As teenagers they were like two peas in a pod until Christian left home after a falling out with their father. He went out into the world and became a successful, but completely stressed out manager – while Georg took over the family owned carpentry business and not once looked beyond the borders of his small hometown.
Now they meet again for the first time in almost 30 years and have become complete strangers. In the middle of the night, after a full blown fist fight at the cemetery and drunk out of their minds from all the booze at the wake, something comes back to them: As teenage boys they made plans for a fun filled cross country trip on their mopeds, but never actually followed through on them.
Since Christian and Georg are both right in the thick of a severe Midlife-Crisis, they decide to put their lives on hold for a week and take their trip almost 30 years after first dreaming it up. And so, still drunk and dressed for a funeral, the brothers jump on their mopeds and start their journey.
A journey on which they spend a crazy night with two rebellious women living in a small village (Alexandra Maria Lara, Franka Potente), on which they eat the entire menu of a Greek Restaurant, on which they discuss the values of their generation with two young visitors of a “Back to the Roots” Festival (Jella Haase, Mateusz Kosciukiewicz), on which they compete in the most legendary ping-pong match in film history and on which they ultimately encounter Christians ex-girlfriend Lisa (Jördis Triebel) in Berlin, along with his 15-year-old son Konrad, whom he has never met before.
A journey from the deepest south to the highest north of Germany, across the whole country and all the gorgeous landscapes and sights it has to offer.
A journey on which Christian and Georg rediscover the ease, the silliness and euphoria that has long disappeared from their lives. A journey on which they get to know each other for a second time, on which they fight with each other, help each other, laugh with each other and finally heal old wounds that have never been spoken of.
A journey during which they wonder what actually makes life worth living and how they want to live it from now on. Always on their mopeds. Never faster than 25 km/h. But always full of sex & drugs & ping-pong!
