After years away from home, an Igbo man returns to his village with the woman he loves—a warm, respectful Yoruba wife who is eager to be accepted into her new family. But his mother, deeply rooted in tradition and old prejudices, rejects her immediately. To the mother, her son’s marriage to a Yoruba woman feels like betrayal: of culture, of lineage, and of the expectations she carried for him.

Determined to break them apart, she makes her daughter‑in‑law’s life miserable. She criticizes her cooking, mocks her language, sabotages her efforts to fit in, and spreads quiet hostility through the household. The young wife, caught between love and cultural rejection, struggles to maintain her dignity while trying to win the approval of a woman who refuses to see her worth.
