Überblick

A few years after the tragic Charlie Hebdo attack, Samuel Paty, a dedicated teacher in a multicultural middle school on the outskirts of Paris, uses controversial cartoons to teach freedom of expression. Before displaying the caricatures of the Prophet, he gives students the option to leave the classroom if they do not wish to see them. Several choose to leave. But when a troubled girl falsely claims she was singled out and expelled for objecting, although she was absent that day, her outraged father’s viral reaction video ignites a firestorm. A local Islamist activist amplifies the outrage and leaks the teacher’s personal information, while an 18-year-old Chechen jihadist follows the online trail to the school gates. Samuel becomes a hunted man, isolated by some colleagues and supported by only a few, he is unaware that a fatwa against him is forming in the shadows of an enraged online mob. As tensions escalate and silence spreads, an ordinary lesson turns into a fatal spiral. In the aftermath, conflicting voices confront a devastating truth: how rumor, a click, and collective inaction can lead to the irreparable.
