Based on a true story, THE EDITOR tells the story of David Jiménez, a journalist who, after 20 years as a war correspondent, is tasked with running Spain’s second-largest newspaper El Mundo and spearheading its modernisation. An idealist soon discovers that his greatest battle will not be on the front line, but within the newsroom itself. Jiménez thus finds himself caught up in a power struggle that he seems doomed to lose because, as a colleague warns him as soon as he arrives: “You’re too much of a journalist and not enough of a bastard.”
WHY WE LOVE IT:
Following the success of the Goya-winning box-office hit "Undercover" (€9.7M in Spain), Beta Fiction Spain and Secuoya Studios adapt David Jiménez’s bestseller into a gripping political drama about journalism, ambition and the dangerous ties between media and power, in the vein of "Spotlight", "Network" and "The Newsroom", the film turns a real-life media battle into a tense and highly contemporary story about power and press freedom.
