“Chapiteau-Show” is a movie-puzzle, a movie-joke, a movie-labyrinth. Four short stories
are titled “Love”, “Friendship”, “Respect” and “Cooperation”. All four parts take place in a small resort
on the Black Sea, where each chapter brings its characters to face the turning moments of their life.
As they go through their personal dramas, a surreal show is taking over the city, bringing all of them
together at the center of an epic performance. One character is agonizing over a love affair gone
wrong, another struggles with friends who just don’t understand, the third tries to win his father’s
respect, and the main character of the fourth is battling to find a way to cooperate with his partners.
Just as in real life, where everyone sees themselves as the stars of their own show, the characters of
“Chapiteau‑Show” are the heroes of their tales but exist as minor characters, barely noticed stuntmen, in
the stories of others. This fills the stories with tragic pathos – a personal catastrophe for one can seem
ridiculous to others. The more serious the character, the more comic he appears to those around him.
Love, Friendship, Respect, Cooperation – these are the colors in which the life’s walls are painted.
