Synopsis

Set on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, A Summer Trip follows Zhang Dachuan (Yang Xinming), a Korean War veteran living in a southern town with his son’s family but feeling emotionally distant. When he learns of an old comrade’s passing, he decides to travel to Beijing alone for the funeral, only to be persuaded by his rebellious grandson Xiaosong (Hu Changlin) to take him along. On the journey, the grandpa, who relies on paper maps, and the grandson, adept at new trends, bicker due to generational gaps but grow closer while overcoming obstacles. This hilarious and heartwarming trip not only bridges the gap between them but also leads to family reconciliation, carrying the veteran’s nostalgia for the past and the inheritance of spirit.
