Synopsis

Eddie Adams photographed 13 wars, six American presidents and every cultural and historical figure of the last 50 years.

“History would be changed through his lens”, says narrator Kiefer Sutherland.

But Eddie Adams always dismissed his work. Of his Pulitzer Prize winning photograph, The Siagon Execution, which is credited with helping end the Vietnam War, he said “When I saw the picture, I wasn’t impressed, and I’m still not impressed.”

“Eddie brought the American public face-to-face with the victims,” says longtime NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw. Later, it was Eddie’s series of photographs The Boat of No Smiles that persuaded the US Congress and President Carter to allow over 250,000 Vietnamese refugees into America.

AN UNLIKELY WEAPON follows Adam’s life from a small town newspaper to the Associated Press. From war photographer to celebrity photographer. From Penthouse to Time Magazine and to his founding a free workshop for young photographers on his farm in upstate New York.
