How much can you love someone?
Would you stay together in times of joy and in times of sorrow, for better or for worse?
Would you give up everything and risk your life?
How about selling your soul and cutting a deal with the ghost?
That is exactly what Sansan does. She is so madly in love with Junchu that she decides to befriend the dead Manli. Little does Sansan know that the day she succumbs to curiosity and opens her heart to Manli is the day that will change her life forever ?
Junchu and Manli plan to get married but are torn forever apart by a tragic accident. Manli dies in front of Junchu?s very eyes. Junchu freezes, the wedding ring he is holding slowly falling to the ground. But there is nothing Junchu can do to bring Manli back to life.
Devastated by Manli?s death and devoured by the unspeakable pain, Junchu locks himself at home all day and mourns. Worried that he would never recover, Junchu?s mother forces him to marry Sansan, hoping that he would move on. However, Junchu falls into a greater despair each day. In his eyes, Sansan is an enemy, not a wife. The dark, gloomy old mansion overcast by tragic becomes more and more unbearable for Sansan.
What?s more terrifying, strange whispers and mysterious silhouettes emerge out of the blue in the mansion surrounded by bamboos. Sansan wants to find out what happens but is dissuaded by the maid. Some things, the maid says, are better left alone.
Afraid as she is, Sansan hangs on in this adversity. Since she was just a needlework maid, she has fallen for the handsome Junchu. But she never imagines that one day she would be married to him. Sansan cherishes this underserved marriage more than anything, hoping that this is not just a dream. No matter how horrible Junchu treats her, she always takes it as it comes with no complaint. All she ever wants is that someday Junchu will smile at her and see her as his wife.
However, worn out physically and mentally, the haunted Junchu is dying. The doctor announces that there is no cure when the patient loses his will to live. When she hears him scream Manli?s name at his deathbed, the tearful Sansan runs back to the old mansion, demanding that the phantom of Manli show up. She is willing to do anything to keep Junchu alive.
?Anything, you said?? asked the pale Manli, staring at Sansan.
In order to save Junchu, Sansan allies Manli and they become friends. Sansan agrees to let Manli possess her body so she can visit Junchu at the hospital.
Nothing is a better cure than the unexpected visit from Manli. Junchu starts to recover, and his feelings for Sansan grow stronger. Sansan starts to avoid Manli, refusing to let her enter her body and claiming the rights to pursue her own happiness. Unaware of what is happening, Junchu decides to forget about the past and live with Sansan happily ever after. This is the day Sansan has waited for so long.
But Manli is furious. Consumed by jealousy and rage, she blames Junchu?s mother and takes revenge by scaring her insane. And then she challenges Sansan to a love duel, threatening to take away the love of her life.
