Lila McCord, a film editor who lost her ten-year-old son last year to a school shooting, thinks her child is reaching out to her when a light orb appears to her. She decides to have a seance to see if she can communicate. Surrounded by close friends Rita, Staci, and Kyle, as well as her parents and new boyfriend Eric, Lila invites Madame Nadagie into her home to hold the seance. This trickster unwittingly brings a powerful skull relic and performs a ritual that appears to work and they communicate with the son. Afterwards, strange disturbing things begin to happen in the household, and it becomes apparent that something evil has been released in the home.
