A look at the dark underside of the American psyche. Three friends in a romantic triangle plan a heist. It goes awry. Haydon goes to jail, and Andrew takes off with Haydon's girlfriend Doris. While in jail, Haydon is befriended by an Arab who has been in Guantanamo. The Arab slips in and out of roles throughout the movie; he haunts Andrew's nightmares. After a year, the three meet up again at a spooky old hotel. With songs by Bob Dylan and clips from Visconti's Lo Straniero, from the book by Camus. Features a classic car, beautiful driving shots- partly a road movie.
