When twelve-year-old Bridget (Rylie Pennington) is sent across town on a simple errand, the last thing she expects is to be followed by a stray black German Shepherd that refuses to leave her side. Determined to prove the dog isn't hers, Bridget spends the day trying to outrun her persistent new companion, only to find herself on an unexpected journey through her small New England town.

Along the way, Bridget encounters a colorful cast of characters who each leave a lasting impression. Mrs. Athelia (Marika Dominczyk) is convinced the stray is a menace to the neighborhood, while Mr. T (Dan Lauria), the owner of the local corner store, reminds Bridget that actions speak louder than words.
