A cerebral sci-fi thriller in the vein of Good Will Hunting meets Jumper.
Stross is a brilliant mathematician living on the streets, convinced that he suffers from schizophrenia because the world around him constantly changes. People forget him, locations shift without warning, and even conversations seem to continue with different people. But when a physicist named Gibson finds him, Stross learns the truth: he is not hallucinating. He has the rare ability to “sideslip” between parallel worldlines.
As Stross begins learning to control his ability, he discovers that Tavia, a woman he has fallen for, has been murdered in one world but remains alive in countless others. Determined to protect her and uncover the truth, Stross follows Gibson across increasingly dangerous realities, eventually discovering a hidden world known as Kaleidoscope and a much larger history of people capable of traveling between parallel universes. But when Stross realizes that the greatest threat may be the very man who taught him how to navigate the multiverse, he must decide what responsibility means when every choice creates another world.
