The year is 2025.  After the abrupt impact of a small extraterrestrial object in a remote region in the Midwest, an unexplained pulse of energy disables all forms of electronics and leaves millions in the dark.  This is only the beginning.  By the time relief organizations arrive to deliver supplies to those within the fifty mile radius of the unknown event, a permanent altered behavior has already occurred.  Changes in personalities are subtle at first.  Not long after, extreme psychosis and manias surface in around sixty-five percent of the affected population. Close families turn against one another, and chaos ensues.  Food and supplies quickly become scarce, and only the strongest or most resourceful of the affected population continue to prosper.  In a swift effort to contain the unexplained phenomenon, the government quarantines the entire region called the ‘Black Zone.’  For those suffering only minor symptoms, their only hope is to survive the emerging gangs, raiders, and lone psychopaths, then flee to military checkpoints, or ‘Yellow Zones.’  Yet within the chaos, evidence is discovered of an individual who has been enhanced by something found at the epicenter of the blast radius.  Desperate to uncover the truth of the mysterious item, a private military firm, Echo Company, secretly begins the search.  As public debates continue for months as to how to assist those trapped in the Black Zone, Echo Company, under the leadership of the ruthless Commander Blake, charges headlong into the heart of the madness – always on the heels of the lone man who holds all the answers to humanities greatest questions.
