TINĀ follows Mareta, a Samoan music teacher in New Zealand who, after losing her daughter in the Christchurch earthquakes, reluctantly takes a job at an elite private school. Her tough love and deep compassion awaken something in her privileged, disconnected students — especially Sophie, a troubled music student. Through teaching cultural songs and fierce encouragement, Mareta builds a choir that becomes a family. As the group prepares for a national singing competition, Mareta's failing health, Sophie's internal struggles, and the school's disapproval of the group threaten to tear them apart.
