Brian Fenton, a jaded, burned-out professor learns from his college he must take early retirement. Meanwhile, Brian must cope with his wayward son, DANNY running from drug dealers looking for payback while dealing with Danny's girlfriend, DAWN, whose wild acts of bravado emerge as both dangerous and alluring. To top it off, Brian gets frantic calls about his aging father, DR. ROBERT FENTON, who’s declining rapidly with dementia. Upon his father's death, Brian discovers old documents detailing a remarkable life his father had lived: love letters to his first wife, charitable work among some South American Indians, and notes about his youthful hopes and fears when he was in the Navy during World War II. The gathered Fenton family partakes in an extremely volatile funeral—at once hilarious and depressing—which produces startling revelations about Doc Fenton and the entire family he’s left behind. As a result, Brian and Danny discover a new direction, a new path forward.
