THE EAGLE OBSESSION is a cinematic odyssey by filmmaker Jeffrey Morris, exploring how the Apollo program and visionary science fiction of the 1960s and ’70s inspired a generation of thinkers, dreamers, and creators. At the center of the film is the Eagle Transporter—the fictional spacecraft from SPACE: 1999 that served as a symbol of bold, reasoned, humanistic futures.
Opening with a reimagined rendition of Steve Miller’s “Fly Like an Eagle,” the film follows Morris on a global journey through time, culture, and imagination. From Arizona to Denmark, Pinewood Studios to the Kennedy Space Center, he connects with astronauts, actors, engineers, fans, and artists who were transformed by the Eagle and the era it represents.
Interviewees include William Shatner, Barbara Bain, Nick Tate, Kevin J. Anderson, Dr. Sian Proctor, Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke, and Oscar-winning visual effects legends Brian Johnson (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, ALIEN) and Bill George (BLADE RUNNER, RETURN OF THE JEDI).
Through original visual effects, archival material, and emotionally rich storytelling, Morris explores not only nostalgia, but the enduring power of imaginative media to shape values, identity, and purpose. From a touching reunion between childhood hero Barbara Bain and a neuroscientist she inspired, to a group of 5th graders building their own version of the Eagle, the film becomes a full-circle meditation on memory, meaning, and what it means to believe in a better tomorrow.
