Non-Player Character

Sinopsis

Hank spends his days policing the internet’s most depraved corners, his nights playing violent video games and caring for his abusive, dying father. Life is already a nightmare. Then his father demands a black-market kidney.

Hank’s desperate quest lands him in a grotesque underworld of sex workers, conspiracy peddlers and organ dealers. But when Vanna, the woman he adores, vanishes and an online video appears to show her abduction, Hank discovers his next mission. Inspired by first-person shooters and macho podcasts, he reinvents himself as Burt Manly, a masked vigilante determined to rescue her.

Soon the body count is rising, Burt Manly is going viral, and Hank is treating the world like a video game with no restart button. He’s finally the hero he always wanted to be. Or is he just another non-player character in someone else’s twisted game?
