Snakes Below

Sinopsis

A group of young amateur archaeologists arrives on the remote island of Lihou for a long-weekend expedition. Accompanied by an older, experienced archaeologist, the friends are hoping to combine a little serious fieldwork around the ancient Priory of Lihou with an adventurous getaway from the mainland. Their trip is meant to be part research project, part holiday — until deteriorating weather and rising tides leave them stranded on the island.

As the weather closes in, the group settles into their isolated cottage, unaware that it sits above a previously undocumented network of wartime tunnels. When their exploration accidentally breaks through into the tunnels, they disturb something that has remained hidden beneath the island for generations: a nest of ravenous snakes.

Isolated from the mainland and with no immediate way to escape, the group soon realizes that the snakes are finding their way out of the tunnels and into the cottage and surrounding grounds. Their comfortable holiday retreat becomes a hunting ground, forcing the friends — and their increasingly vulnerable mentor — to fight their way through an environment they barely understand. With the tide continuing to rise, their only hope may be to find a route through the tunnels and reach another way off the island. But the deeper they go, the more they realise that the tunnels are not simply abandoned wartime ruins. And when they finally discover what lies at the tunnels’ furthest reaches, they face a terrifying choice: remain trapped with the snakes, or open a passage that could allow the sea to flood the tunnels and devour them all.
