What are the limits of a mother’s love?
A single mother has just lost her son. Grief-stricken, she shuts off the outside world and continues to care for his body as though he is still alive. Her undying love for him consumes her life completely.
The intensity of the mother’s love for her autistic son transgresses social boundaries, even before death. It extends to the spiritual realm where he now exists. The film juxtaposes inner and outer worlds, psychological and social boundaries. Inside, is the boarded home with its secrets. Outside, is the remembered Toraja world of his childhood in south Sulawesi, with its rituals celebrating death and the ancestors.
At the same time, time comes and goes, she wanders, hieratic and crazy, between the world of memories, that of dreams, that of reality without making any distinction between these worlds.
Everything has become ONE TIME: that of her son who is impossible to let go, to leave.
