Synopsis

JESSICA HERRING is an unremarkable woman. Her recent move to start fresh has unfortunately brought the adage, “no matter where you go, there you are” to the forefront. Yearning to create some semblance of a family, she’s taken on the role of caretaker for her deadbeat boyfriend’s infirmed mother, MARNIE.

On her way back from the pharmacy, Jessica gets lost on the back roads in her new home town and stumbles upon the idyllic town of Grafton. Stopping into a quaint cafe for directions, she discovers there is, unfortunately, no way back. Her name is actually Mrs. Jessica Weldon, and she lives right here in Grafton. Curiosity gets the better of her. Some things in this town do seem strangely familiar.

Making her way to the address given to her at the cafe, she meets her ‘husband’, CLIFFORD WELDON. Overwhelmed by these perplexing circumstances, she flees into the forest. Her curiosity turns to terror when she discovers different Cliffords at every turn. Depleted, Jessica gives up and returns to Clifford’s well-appointed farmhouse-- home, sweet home.

Convinced by photographic evidence of a beautiful marriage together, she decides to stay awhile. Not that she has a choice. Besides, the sex and the muffins are far superior here. In Grafton, indulging in pastoral pleasures is not just expected, these privileges seem to arise by enchantment. Doesn’t she deserve this life too?

Try as she might to assimilate, Jessica’s disquiet begins to drive a wedge into this remarkably tight-knit community. A neighborhood-wide potluck is one thing, but the “gatherings” in this town are on another level- literally. With a former lifetime of overextended martyrdom to guide her, Jessica can smell from a mile away that these people need something from her. A gal’s day out with EVA (her newfound/lifelong bestie) brings this reality into focus. She’s not just the beloved, amnesiac neighbor. She’s the North star of a most magnificent constellation, and these folks are dead-set on witnessing the Alignment.

Clifford’s patience with her resistance wanes, and his resentment surfaces. Finally, something recognizable! The other shoe always drops. An afterdark intrusion into the peculiar historical society further reveals the cracks in the facade. Racing against an oncoming celestial vortex of unknown proportion, Jessica must find her way out of Grafton. What is the price of a one-way ticket out of utopia? Quite costly, as it turns out.
