We are in Upper Lazio during the final years of World War II. The Buratti family, the film’s protagonists, arrives there in 1943, having fled Rome as the war approached. They are a bourgeois yet unconventional family: Vincenzo is a doctor, and his wife Maria is a pianist. The entire story unfolds through the innocent yet perceptive eyes of the three young siblings, Paolo, Giuliano, and Mimmi, aged five, six, and seven. Within the joyful and occasionally eccentric atmosphere of the Buratti family, staunchly anti-fascist, the war will leave a deep and lasting wound.
